We’re hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to help build and scale the core infrastructure behind our document intelligence and workflow platform. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys designing reliable, high-performance systems and taking ownership of backend architecture in a high-growth B2B SaaS environment.

You’ll work closely with product, engineering, and customer-facing teams to deliver systems that are fast, resilient, and deeply aligned with customer needs.

About the Role

This is a high-ownership role that blends:

You’ll play a key role in shaping the systems that power Feathery’s platform — ensuring they are reliable, scalable, and built to handle complex, real-world use cases.

What You’ll Do

Backend Systems & Infrastructure

• Design, build, and scale backend services that power document processing and workflow automation

• Develop asynchronous pipelines and distributed systems for handling large volumes of data

• Build and maintain infrastructure using AWS services and queueing systems (e.g., SQS)

• Ensure high availability, fault tolerance, and observability across systems

• Optimize systems for performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency

Data Processing & Platform Capabilities

• Build systems for processing and transforming structured and unstructured data

• Integrate external services such as OCR and AI models where appropriate

• Improve reliability and throughput of document and data processing pipelines

• Contribute to APIs and internal services that power the product

Product & Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Work closely with product to define requirements and ship impactful features

• Collaborate with frontend and customer-facing teams to support new use cases

• Help translate complex customer needs into scalable backend solutions

• Contribute to product planning and technical scoping

Technical Leadership

• Take ownership of key backend systems and architecture decisions

• Mentor other engineers and contribute to engineering best practices

• Help improve code quality, testing, and deployment processes

• Stay up to date with modern backend and infrastructure technologies

About You

• 4–7+ years of experience building and scaling backend systems

• Strong proficiency in backend frameworks such as Node.js, Django, or similar

• Experience designing distributed systems and asynchronous processing pipelines

• Solid experience with AWS and cloud infrastructure

• Strong understanding of system performance, reliability, and observability

• Experience building production-grade APIs and services

• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-growth startup environment

• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams

Bonus

• Experience building data processing or ETL pipelines

• Familiarity with document processing, OCR, or AI/ML integrations

• Experience with queueing systems (e.g., SQS) and event-driven architectures

• Experience optimizing systems for high throughput and low latency

• Background in financial services, insurance, or other data-intensive industries

• Experience at a high-growth B2B SaaS company
